NEWS: Wellness Matters April 2012 Issue

Welcome to Wellness Matters April 2012 edition, the E-Journal of the San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. In this month’s issue of Wellness Matters, topics include Mental Health programs for those convicted of crime and  job opportunities to reintegrate the incarcerated. COMMUNITY: Behavioral Health in a Changing Healthcare Environment

Stephen Kaplan, the Director of Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) will be conducting a ‘Meet and Greet’ on Thursday April, 26th, 2012 from 5:30pm to 7pm. Feel free to ask any questions, the topic will be “Behavioral Health in a Changing Healthcare Environment.” This is a rare opportunity for families served by the BHRS to talk in person with the Director Stephen Kaplan and learn more about mental health, alcohol, and other drug services. Families are encouraged to come and ask questions because their Wellness is the business of the BHRS.

YOUTH: Latina Leaders in Government Young Women’s Civic Engagement Forum, April 19th 2012

The San Mateo chapter of the California Women Lead in partnership with Sequoia High School and Redwood City Mayor Alicia Aguirre will be hosting a Civic Forum at Sequoia High School on Thursday, April 19, 2012 4-6pm. Please register by April 16th, for a chance to speak with locally elected Hispanic leaders. This is your chance to ask questions and be politically active in the community. This event is free and open to everyone.

PARTNER EVENTS: Honoring our Wellness Day May 12, 2012

The Pacific Islander Initiative and the African American Community Health Advisory Committee will be hosting a Wellness Day on May 12, 2012 from 8:30am to 2pm at the Mills-Peninsula Health Services located on 100 S. San Mateo Dr. San Mateo 94401. In celebration of Pacific Islander Month and supported by local agencies; there will be free screenings and health professionals answering questions regarding mental and physical health. There will also be a free Mammogram screening between 9am and 1pm, but space is limited so please register for the Mammogram screening by 4/27/12.
