The Youth Leadership Institute and YO! Mateo would like to invite youth of color to a unique community event:
- FREE food, drinks and giveaways.
- YO! Mateo Are We Sweet Enough? is holding a community forum for youth of color to discuss the new Sugar Sweetened Beverage (SSB) tax in San Mateo County. This issue is more than a health equity problem, but one of racial justice. The tax is meant to help prevent diabetes and obesity but in doing so will financially impact working class families and youth of color. Therefore, this community forum is a place for youth to voice their support, questions, and concerns.
WHY ATTEND?
- This community forum is the first of its kind where youth of color have been asked to VOICE their opinion on a local tax.
- Youth participants who are involved will be able to influence decisions local government makes and ultimately impact the communities they live in.
- Represent an unheard voice in our community.
