LGBTQQIA: Dr. Jei Africa Receives KQED LGBT Local Hero Award 6-5-2012

Each year, local public television station KQED celebrates the diversity of our community with a special lineup of programs during each Heritage Month (list below).  In addition, KQED honors outstanding individuals during each Heritage Month with a Local Hero Award, given to a selected few nominated by the general public.

Our very own Dr. Jei Africa, the health equity initiatives manager of the Office of Diversity & Equity, under the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services department of San Mateo County, was honored for her work in providing leadership and guidance to promote effective and culturally responsive services into the core functioning of county health services. Jei is also a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified addiction treatment counselor, and maintains a consulting and private psychotherapy practice in San Francisco.  Jei was honored alongside fellow 2012 awardees Jeff Cotter of Rainbow World Fund (RWF), Roger Doughty of Horizons Foundation, and Tom Nolan of Project Open Hand!

The awards ceremony was held in the beautiful Castro Theater, and none other than screenwriter, director, and producer Dustin Lance Black hosted!

Congratulations Jei, Jeff, Roger, and Tom !!
