After over a year of planning and coordination, NCPP was proud to host our Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) Day 1-2 training for our Drug-Free Communities coalition in South San Francisco.  Facilitated by Brenda Armstrong of Santa Cruz County Friday Night Live (FNL) and Community United to Reduce Bingeing (CURB), the CMCA training provided a framework to address issues in the community around alcohol by utilizing principles of community organizing and the public health model.  Over 20 participants from various organizations attended the two day training, held at the South San Francisco Municipal building, as provided in support by our coalition partners from South San Francisco Park & Rec.  Trainees spanned the gamut from South San Francisco residents, college students, prevention professionals, San Mateo County staff from Alcohol/Other Drug/Tobacco/Nutrition departments, and even representatives of the individual organizations of Asian Youth Prevention Services (AYPS) in San Francisco.

As a team, our “homework” after receiving this first round of training is to interview over 100+ members of the South San Francisco community on their views.  We will be developing our list of leads & contacts, finalizing our interview template, and coordinating with our training participants on this “one-on-one” process.  Stay tuned in the coming months for the initial findings of this research.

The next round of CMCA trainings (Day 3-4) is planned for March 2014.  Won’t you join us and be part of the movement to make South San Francisco a safer and healthier place?
