COMMUNITY: Check out U.T.O.P.I.A. San Francisco

The North County Prevention Partnership supports the work of U.T.O.P.I.A. SF in providing support to Polynesian LGBT populations in North County.

The United Territories Of Pacific Islanders’ Alliance (U.T.O.P.I.A) originated in San Francisco, California in March 1998. The organization was formed to provide support to the Polynesian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, andTransgender community.
Originally, the group identified themselves as GPAC (Gay Polynesians Alliance/California). In February 1999, the name was changed to UTOPIA.

The new name was better suited to represent the diversity of the club. UTOPIA has been a support organization for GLBT Polynesians and friends consisting of members from Samoa, Tonga, Hawaii, Tahiti and Fiji. UTOPIA hopes to strengthen its alliance by recruiting members from all of Polynesia and South Pacific.

Mua ō is a higher education conference that started in 2008 in response to the disproportionate number of Pacific Islanders pursuing a higher education. This year, the conference will bring light to different issues in the Pacific Islander community such as immigration, civic engagement, queer issues, womyn’s rights, gender, Pacific Islanders in higher education, etc. Our hope is to create a space where we can merge the importance of higher education and social justice as it relates to the Pacific Islander community. ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE INVITED! BRING A FRIEND! Food will be provided!

Here’s an interactive map of the campus (look for Martin Luther King Student Union) – http://berkeley.edu/map/3dmap/3dmap.shtml
